NAME: Naminé
CANON: Kingdom Hearts
CANON POINT: After Riku picks her up from Radiant Garden
AGE: 16
BACKGROUND: Her History
PERSONALITY:
When talking about Naminé, it's one thing to point out that at this point in canon, she now has her own heart, which makes a difference but not by much. Nobodies by definition are beings that have lost their hearts and have no emotions. Her birth compared to others in the game was very special. Instead her original human was someone who was a princess with a pure heart, who couldn’t lose it under normal circumstances. She was essentially made of two people (Kairi’s heart and Sora’s body and soul) Because of this, Naminé earned very unique powers of controlling and manipulating people’s memories that were close to the people she was born from.
It's all because of this, that Naminé is able to act and think in a way that most Nobodies don't. One of which is her ability to speak the truth. She never shies away from being this way, if it means meeting a goal that needs to get done. She still feels very upset over telling them, though, and feels guilty about it for a long time. She will always have sympathy for the person in the wrong, but if she has to tell them, she'll do it. In a way, this is her way of showing respect and also showing off her compassion and kindness for others. Since the Organization has demeaned, belittled, and mentally attacked her being, she has developed an aspect of her values to where she wants to treat people better than how others have treated her, and telling the truth and respecting the other person's will to decide what to do with that information is her way of showing that. Especially if she is so limited in terms of human contact, being stuck in one place throughout her entire life, and has no friendly encounters, this is pretty much her only means of taking care of others in a protective manner.
One kind aspect that stands out is her supportive voice. She's a pretty wise young woman who carefully observes others and their environment. If she finds that something seems out of place, and it's not working for someone, she immediately tells them that something's wrong, and that they themselves can reach those goals if they try another way. For Roxas and Riku, the urge to help them overcome their mental and physical demons was something she wanted to help with them badly. And for this, she is willing to go through any means to help them, even if it means getting caught; or completely changing her looks to suit the other person in trouble, just so she could ease their minds. As long as they are able to hear her supportive and helpful words, Naminé feels at peace, and knows they can take it from there.
Another key point to her personality is that she is afraid of being locked away and being alone. Her whole life she's been stuck either in a castle or a building, and has had no social life to speak of. When she was born, she had no memories of her previous life, and became very submissive, dependent, quiet, and frail. She was very easy to boss around and was very weak-willed. Because of all this, she felt extremely lonely, very shy around others, and doesn't have a whole lot of a high self-esteem. Whenever something bad happens on her end, she feels it's her own fault and she doesn't deserve a good outcome of a situation (case in point when Sora decides he doesn't want to remember her and wants to keeps his memories of Kairi instead, she feels this is good, since she isn't worth remembering anyways). This is also becomes apparent when she tries doing something good for others, but doesn't really focus on doing happy things for herself. As long as the other person is happy, she's fine and justifies it as something she doesn't deserve anyway because of all the things she's done in the past (messing with people's memories, in one case making some people disappear entirely, and even making someone a lifeless husk if she panics about the situation enough).
Naminé is also her own worst enemy when it comes to making her life less miserable. Thanks to feeling so guilty over doing things to others and her loneliness, she mentally beats herself up over how less deserving she is to others, and it has to take someone to basically tell her “No, you deserve this too. It's not your fault.”. She's able to listen and open her mind to what other friendly people say to cheer her up, but she always has that in the back of her mind when looking and deciding over things.
Because of her background and history with the Organization, Naminé has a pretty corrupt past that has led her on the wrong side. Since experiencing that power, she has always examined her priorities and actions of those with similar choices, and when observing them, she eventually turned to the morally right side, trying to help out in any way she could. Even when told of her fate as a Nobody (joining Kairi and being a part of her heart, while she loses her body and self), she resigns to her fate; not only of the belief that Naminé doesn't deserve to live her life, but because of her alignment, she honestly believes it's the right thing to do for everybody. As long as they are happy and it's for a greater good, she will comply.
Thankfully towards the end of the journey, she has gained a new body and has become slightly happier. She was even happy enough to reach out to someone special to her, who would never let her down, and is trying to move forward thanks to their support and a brand new starting point. She has struggled mentally and physically, but now she has a chance to enjoy life, and rise above her negative (and still lingering) aspects.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Powers & Abilities Summary
~Nerfs: Since she's coming back a human and is not a Nobody anymore, she will not be able to use Corridors to Darkness. She will still be able to use her Memory Manipulation if the need calls for it.
HOWEVER!! Since her biggest power aspect is Memory Manipulation, I would gladly suggest going to my permissions post and commenting on there, just in case you don't want to be manipulated by her. I don't think I'll be using it a lot, if at all, BUT I will happily comply to those who wish to opt out and I will keep those powers away from those characters.
My permissions post is here.
